A new chapter for Aveyron’s digital ecosystem

WS Interactive is continuing its digital support for the Department of Aveyron! After aveyron.fr, the Montrozier Archaeological Area, and Aveyron Jeunesse, our agency is delivering a new brick in this digital ecosystem: the website dedicated to the RN88 development project between Rodez and the A75 motorway

A new collaboration, but the same requirement: high-quality public digital solutions that are consistent across websites, serving the region and all Aveyron residents

Here we go! Off to Rodez to present this new project.

RN88: A historic route, a website to write its next chapter

The RN88 is a major cross-country highway in the southern Massif Central, connecting Toulouse, Albi, Rodez, Mende, Le Puy-en-Velay, and Lyon. Upgrading it to a 2×2 dual carriageway between Rodez and the A75 has been under study since the 1990s and declared of public utility back in 1997: a long-awaited project now taken over by the Department of Aveyron, which became the project manager on January 1, 2024

The numbers speak for themselves:

  • Up to 13,000 vehicles per day leaving Rodez, with heavy goods vehicles accounting for up to 19% in certain sections
  • 46 accidents recorded between 2018 and 2024, including 13 fatalities
  • An estimated budget of €400 million, with construction work anticipated to start in 2032

Before moving forward, the project is subject to prior public consultation under the environmental code, referred by the National Commission for Public Debate (CNDP) and supervised by two independent guarantors. The website’s mission is to support this key step: providing information starting September 14, 2026, and opening the public debate from September 28 to December 28

Key features of the site include:

  • A comprehensive overview of the project, its history, objectives, and challenges
  • All preliminary studies and preparatory documents, updated as the consultation progresses
  • A calendar of public meetings, including the launch meeting on September 28 in Laissac-Sévérac-l’Église
  • Multiple ways to participate: form an opinion in 5 minutes, contribute online, or submit a stakeholder brief

Beyond providing information, the Department wished to offer local residents a true space for dialogue

A website designed to give a voice to all Aveyron residents

For a project as major as a €400 million road development, one keyword stands out: pedagogy. Understanding the stakes of such an undertaking, its alternatives, and its impacts before forming an opinion or expressing a view is never simple. That is the core purpose of this site: making technical and regulatory information accessible, so that everyone—local residents, farmers, economic stakeholders, or regular road users—can form an informed opinion

Our goal? A clear, reassuring, and above all easy-to-use platform for citizens from all walks of life, whether simply curious or directly affected

Our approach? Attentive collaboration with the Department’s teams to design a site fully aligned with the digital identity already established on aveyron.fr and other regional sites—a new piece in the same digital puzzle, rather than an isolated site

Full-service support: from user experience to digital marketing

As always at WS, a project delivered end-to-end

The RN88 website was built using Drupal, in a multi-site setup alongside the Department’s other websites[cite: 3]. This architecture allows technical resources to be shared while preserving each site’s unique identity

The UX design focused heavily on participation, featuring simple forms to leave feedback, a component to attach files, a clear submit button to encourage action, a registration section for public meetings, and an FAQ addressing the most common questions regarding the project and consultation process

WS Interactive also supports the Department on the project’s digital marketing, including the design and distribution of the RN88 newsletter[cite: 3]. Its content updates automatically with the three latest events and the three latest news articles published on the site

The result: A website that clearly communicates the history, challenges, and timeline of the project, facilitates civic participation in all its forms, and brings local residents together around a major project for the future of their region

WS Interactive is proud to support the Department of Aveyron in this new chapter of its digital ecosystem
